2019 seems to be the year of acquisition in the smart trainer industry. Today, 4iiii Innovation announced its acquisition of STAC Performance, the creators of the STAC Zero Halcyon Smart Trainer.

STAC makes the STAC Zero and STAC Zero Halcyon smart trainers. Led by avid triathlete, Ironman and mechanical engineer Andrew Buckrell, the company has seen sales of the trainer in over 40 countries since its launch via Kickstarter in 2016. In 2018, the STAC Zero was awarded the EUROBIKE Award for its innovation. and design.

Kip Fyfe, 4iiii President and CEO is no stranger to acquisitions. His former. company Dynastream and ANT+ were sold to Garmin in 2006. He since started 4iiii Innovation, a company known for its powermeters and heart rate monitors.

The terms of the agreement were not disclosed.  The full STAC team will be relocating this summer to 4iiii head-quarters in Cochrane Alberta.

As for STAC customers, this acquisition should provide the company with additional funding and resources to work on their Virtual Wind Tunnel and better compete and innovate in the indoor smart trainers market. The name STAC will probaby fold under the 4iiii brand.
