It’s this time of the year again. We are all back indoors riding our trainers as we go through the winter months in the northern hemisphere. If you are in the market for a new smart trainer, get your credit card ready. In this post, I will walk you through what to expect during the 2021 holiday season.
November is your best chance to get a good deal on new trainers – at least in the United States. Don’t wait until later this year thinking you might get a better deal around Christmas or the New Year. I expect to see deals starting this weekend into Black Friday/Cyber Monday week. After that, the deals on smart bike trainers will be gone and possibly trainers will even be out of stock.

The Garmin NEO 2T is one of those classic trainers that you just can't go wrong with. Good trainer at this price.
The NEO 2T has been one of the flagship trainers with advanced features such as road simulation. It supports up to 2,200 watts, measure power within +/-1% precision, and supports up to 25% grade simulation.
This one does not come with a cassette but also a few hundred dollars cheaper.
The Dirto XR-T has been one of the best smart trainers Elite produced. It is accurate, and powerful. It supports up to 1,800 watts within +/-1% accuracy and 25% slope simulation. This one does not come with a cassette.
For $200, this wheel-on trainer is a bargain if that's what you're after.
The TUO is a compact smart interactive trainer with up to 500 watts of resistance and measure power within +/-5%. It supports up to 10% grade simulation. Great budget wheel-on trainer for ERG or sim mode training.

However, there is a 20% off one full-priced item sale expected to start this Friday. I am not sure if that’s a one-day type sale, and if it will include smart trainers. But expect to also see Black Friday sales starting November 17, 2021, and end around Cyber Monday. Backcountry offers free shipping on trainers.
REI MEMBERS EVENT (Expired)
REI requires you to be an REI member to take advantage of this sale which will cost you $20 for a lifetime membership. You get an average of 10% back on all purchases at the end of the year. So this membership pays for itself if you spend over $200.

REI is a major retailer that runs a 20% member sale right before Black Friday. Generally, their members’ event starts two weeks before the Thanksgiving Holiday. You can apply the 20% off to one full-priced item. You have to be an REI member to take advantage of this sale which will cost you $20 for a lifetime membership. You get an average of 10% back on all purchases at the end of the year. So this membership pays for itself if you spend over $200.
In years past, this sale included smart trainers including trainers from Tacx and Wahoo.
REI charges for shipping unless you opt to ship to a store near you. They have a 90-day return policy on bike trainers and any GPS-enabled devices like a Garmin watch for example.
WAHOO FITNESS (Expired)
Wahoo runs some kind of sale on Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Also, expect to see some discount on their bike computers and other items from their online store.
For CyberMonday, Wahoo usually does another sale. My expectation this year is, we will see 10-20% off everything in their store. We might also see another big sale on refurbished trainers. Refurbished are generally a good option and come with a full 1-year warranty.

Wahoo is running a 10% OFF sale TODAY CYBER MONDAY ONLY (extended for 24-hour). I expect this to be the last sale we will see on Wahoo KICKRs. I expect these trainers to sell out fast. If you have been waiting on a deal, this is your last chance.
Amazon is a hit or miss when it comes to smart trainers. I haven’t seen an official start date of their Black Friday, but expect to see Amazon Black Friday deals on a regular basis on this page. Amazon is a good place to find really incredible deals on AirPods, Garmin Fitness Watches, Apple Watches and other fitness items. As far as smart bike trainers, they don’t carry any Wahoo brand bike trainers. However, we might find deals on other brands from Elite, Garmin, Saris, and others.
REFURBISHED
Getting a refurbished KICKR or KICKR CORE will save you a few hundred dollars. Wahoo certifies each one of these trainers and makes sure they are in working order. Cosmetically, there might be some scratches or nicks if you don’t mind that. You also get the same 1-full year warranty on a refurbished as you get on a new trainer.
